On Tuesday, February 5, 2018, GPP Outsourced CFO Services Manager Alita Stratton took to the classroom to teach a class on Business Taxes for the Self Employed to the women of WINGS, a nonprofit organization whose mission it is to empower women, fight poverty and impact generations.
“Wings is right up my alley because it gives me the opportunity to mentor and support other women,” states Alita. “My class was part of the Women’s Enterprise program which gives women entrepreneurs the tools to start their own business or expand their existing business. They learn business and personal finance, how to develop a business plan, work on their professional skills, etc. Last year I attended one of the graduation events for women completing the program. Each graduate had a booth displaying their business. I got an opportunity to visit with them and understand more about their journey through the program. Their creativity was very inspiring, and their appreciation for the support they received was moving.”
In addition to the Women’s Enterprise program, WINGS offers the Financial Peace of Mind program focused on personal finances and the Partners in Parenting program which partners first-time moms with experienced nurse home visitors throughout pregnancy and during the baby’s first two years. All programs are free of charge.
GPP encourages and supports its staff on all of their volunteer efforts. As part of its 25th anniversary celebration, GPP has embarked on a year-long volunteer initiative called 25 for 25. At the end of which, GPP will donate a total of $2,500 to charity. GPP is asking team members to devote 25 hours during 2019 to volunteer/charity work. At the end of the year, five members of the staff, who have completed the 25 hours, will be randomly chosen to designate $500 to their favorite charity.
